A True Taste of Scotland: Castles, Lochs, and Whisky

This tour brings together three quintessential Scottish elements: historic castles, breathtaking lochs, and world-famous whisky. Designed for those who enjoy a leisurely pace, it’s the perfect way to savour the beauty and rich heritage of Scotland.

Whether you’re joining us from St Andrews or Edinburgh, your journey begins with a scenic drive west. Our first stop is a visit to one of Scotland’s iconic whisky distilleries. With 44 bottles of Scotch whisky exported every second, there’s no better way to experience Scotland’s most famous export. At the Clydeside Distillery in Glasgow, you’ll uncover the fascinating process of whisky production and enjoy a tasting of their finest drams.

We’ll then make our way to your lunch stop, either the charming village of Aberfoyle or the picturesque lochside village of Balmaha, both located in the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Aberfoyle offers something for everyone, from unique shops to learning about local farming practices, such as sheepdog demonstrations. Alternatively, Balmaha provides tranquil walks along the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond or a short hike up Craigie Fort for stunning panoramic views. Don’t forget to pack suitable shoes to make the most of your time here!

Next, we’ll travel through Stirlingshire, where your guide will bring to life the turbulent history of William Wallace, Scotland’s legendary knight and freedom fighter. As you pass through this striking landscape, hear tales of his connection to the area, made famous by the film Braveheart.

Our journey continues to the historic city of Stirling, where you’ll have approximately two hours to explore. Visit the magnificent Stirling Castle*, one of Scotland’s most important historical sites and the coronation location of Mary Queen of Scots. If castles aren’t your preference, wander through Stirling’s medieval streets or visit its gin distillery for a unique experience. Stirling is a place steeped in history and is often called the Gateway to the Highlands for good reason.

On our return journey, we’ll pass by the Kelpies, an awe-inspiring pair of 30-meter-high horse-head sculptures designed by Andy Scott. These engineering marvels celebrate Scotland’s industrial past and the mythical water creatures of local folklore. Your guide will share the captivating story behind these impressive landmarks as you admire them from the coach.
